Observation Report for Muharram 1441 AH

Mr Mustafa Desai commented: "I with a group of 5 other people (from Blackburn and Chorley), sighted the crescent moon on Saturday, 31st of August 2019 at 20:30. Location: Belthorn Road, Blackburn. The Crescent was sighted with naked eye at 20:30 to the left of Sunset. The crescent was visible For approximately 10 minutes until it was obscured by Clouds. (Submitted on 1/9/2019 - Admin)".

Mr Imraan Kola commented: "Hilal sighted from Borrowdale Avenue. submitted on 1/9/2019 - Admin".

Maulana Kifayatullah Khanjra commented: "Crescent was sighted by a group of approx 10 people by naked eye and binoculars. Time is approx".

Maulana Hidayatullah Patel commented: "Alhamdulillah a group of about 10 people saw the hilal at Mellor, Blackburn, Lancashire. Hilal was first sighted at around 8.20 PM, about 15-20 min after sunset. It was also sighted in two other organised sighting locations in Blackburn: Borrowdale Avenue & Belthorn Road".

Mr Juned Patel commented: "I, Juned Patel, with a group of 3 people (Mehboob, Riaz, Yassine); sighted the crescent moon (Hilal) of 1st day of Muharram 1441; today on Saturday, 31st of August 2019 (29 Dhul-Hijjah 1440 AH); at location Rivington Road, Bolton. The crescent moon was sighted first with a binocular at 20:17 and then by the naked eye at 20:18 to the left of sunset and orientation was from 1 to 7 O’clock, It was visible till 20:43 and then we left the location but the moon was still being seen".

Mr Modoris Ali commented: "I and my son has seen the moon, walked a few minutes from my home, then I and my son seen the moon [again]".

Imam Maaz Waheed commented: "Sky was clear. Image was taken using mobile phone camera zoomed in with focal length of around 1005 mm & 849 mm ".

Alhamdulillah, the moon marking Muharram was sighted in multiple locations across the UK: London, (Wanstead, Northala Fields, Walthamstow, Hackney), Birmingham, Peterborough, Leicester, High Wycombe, Swindon, Southend, Norfolk, Blackburn, Manchester, Dewsbury and York. A small selection of pictures attached. Thus we can announce the beginning of Muharram 1441. Thus ASHURA will be on Tuesday, September 10. A phenomenal achievement. Thanks to all involved. [Have we missed anywhere?] In London, around 50 people gathered after a full day’s training in moon sighting and lunar orbits. The day perfectly concluded with us looking into the horizon and seeing the New Crescent beautifully present, right until the moment it set. By working together in the UK, we’ve seen the moon consecutively now for 6 months and with Allah’s grace, we will see it every month. We can only do this if we work together. When the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) would see the New Crescent, he would say: O Allah, let it shine upon us with the light of good fortune and faith of salvation and submission; [Addressing the moon] - My Lord and your Lord is Allah. A new crescent of guidance and good! May we catch the blessings of this month, and the entire year. Mr Syed Rashid Qadri commented: "I clearly observed the crescent as soon as we finished Maghrib prayers but it went behind the clouds soon afterwards. We had to wait for another 20-25 minutes before it was seen again. The crescent was sharp and clearly visible. I have no doubt that it was the new crescent marking the beginning of the new Islamic year (submitted on 1/9/2019 - Admin)".

Eng Suleman Aboo commented: "Allhumdullilah a group of us 15+ saw the crescent clearly at Wanstead Park in East London. A brother with fantastic eyesight saw the crescent even before the binoculars! maashallah. (submitted on 1/9/2019 - Admin)".

Dr Shahid Merali commented: "The skies were mostly clear, with some cloud on the horizon, though overall viewing conditions were ideal. The Hilal was easily seen by myself and my wife (Mrs Tehseen Merali). May this year be a year of Blessings and Peace for the whole Ummah, Ameen".

Shaykh Sulayman Gani commented: "The two of us sighted the Muharram crescent moon in Southend on Saturday 31st August at 8:10 pm. We first followed the point of sunset on the seafront. I spotted the moon easily above the tree (submitted on 1/9/2019 - Admin)".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was partly cloudy but the moon position was behind a dark patch of clouds before sunset (19:58 BST). However, the moon position was out of the cloud after about 20 mins and the two of us (myself and Hani Abdullah) saw the Muharram 1441 AH hilal at 20:22 BST with binoculars and by naked eye soon after that, Alhamdulillah. I took a few photos of the Hilal and also recorded on a video (which you can see from the YouTube link here: https://youtu.be/kQsiYKsQgRg)".

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Easly seen first with binoculars then by the naked eye. Local sunset 6:26 pm. first seen at 6:35 pm by binoculars. 6:45 pm onwards seen by the naked eye for 30 min until it disappeared behind clouds".
