Dr Nadeem Ali commented: "I went with my sons Nuh and Ahmad Ali to our usual location of Farthing Downs (51.3072558, -0.1364386). We stayed from 21.35 till 21.45 (moonset was due to be 21.50). Conditions were partially cloudy, heavy in places. We did not see the hilal".

After iftar and Salah over 10 of us attempted the sighting. Was very windy and cloudy. The moon not sighted. As the skies cleared William pointed us to Venus".

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Not seen with the binocular or naked eye. The sky was very clear but atmospheric haze and some very few light clouds. What we did see is the Planet Venus in its crescent phase. Although the moon was some 22 hours old and was remaining on the horizon for 35 minutes the atmospheric haze, altitude and elongation did not favour a naked eye or binocular sighting from Abha (Saudi Arabia)".

Ms Karen Khadija Hall commented: "I went to Eccup Lane, Leeds, past the New Inn, to the entrance to a field with a fabulous view over to Otley Chevin. The sky was hazy at first, but after around half an hour after sunset, the crescent moon could be seen. It took me a while to take a picture because my camera couldn't pick the moon up. I went back down the road, past the New Inn, and was finally able to get a picture around 10.30 pm".

York

Seen after sunset: On 24 May 2020, ICOUK member Eng Qamar Uddin from York City in the North Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Clear, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye and Binoculars.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "I went to my usual York location about half an before the sunset (21:15 BST) to set up and was able to see the Shawwal 1441 Hilal at 21:23 hrs BST with a pair of binoculars (20x80). I then prayed Maghrib and was able to see the Hilal with naked-eye at about 21:35 hrs BST. The 1st photo shows the normal view of the western horizon after sunset where the Hilal is difficult to see on the top but the 2nd photo 2 shows the close-up version. So far, we have seen the 1441 AH Hilal in the UK 9 out of 10 months, Alhamdulillah".


Saudi Arabia

Abha

Seen after sunset: On 24 May 2020, ICOUK member Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel from Abha City in the Asir County (Saudi Arabia) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye.

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "The crescent moon was easily seen today even though there were clouds. I also saw Mercury and Venus. See video: https://youtu.be/tAin6ideaCU".


Announcement for start of Shawwal 1441 AH

On Saturday 23rd May 2020 (29th Ramadan 1441 AH) the Hilal of Shawwal 1441 was not sighted in the UK but it was sighted in Morocco region. We have also received a positive sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).

Therefore, the month of Ramadan 1441 AH will have 29-days and the month of Shawwal 1441 AH will start from Sunday 24th May 2020, InShaAllah. Eid Mubarak to all Muslims (and don't forget to share your Hilal photo on ICOUK website)!
