The crescent visibility map below for Shaban 1442 shows that moon will be born on 13 March 2021 at 10:21 GMT/UT, but it will not be visible by the naked-eye anywhere in the UK to Morocco region on that date. However, on 14 March 2021 the moon will be easily visible in the UK and in most countries of the world. Hence, the month of Shaban is most likely to start from 15 March 2021, InShaAllah.

Not seen after sunset: On 13 Mar 2021, ICOUK member Mr Muhammad Arshad Dar from Bolton City in the Greater Manchester County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Mr Muhammad Arshad Dar commented: "I went to our usual site in Rivington, Bolton however due to dark, thick clouds covering the whole sky, I was unable to sight the crescent for the month of Sha'ban".

Mufti Zaheer Aslam commented: "I tried sighting the moon on my own at a Moonsighting location in Rochdale, Falinge Road/B6377, 53.6236125, -2.1672251, the weather was rainy with almost total cloud cover. The sky above the horizon was still somewhat visible above the mountains at the back. The rest of the sky had strong cloud cover and some of the clouds were dark. I spent about 5 minutes looking for the crescent but could not see anything. There was still quite a bit of light where the sky was visible. I forgot to take my smartphone so couldn't take a picture".

Mr Hatim El-Harrak commented: "On the evening of Saturday, March 13, 2021, corresponding to Rajab 29, 1442 AH, we tried to observe the crescent of Shaban 1442 AH from Tangiers and did not see the crescent".

Mr Juned Patel commented: "On Sunday, 14th of March 2021, between 17:45 to 19:40 (Sunset 16:12 & Moonset 16:34) at Location: Rossall Promenade, Fleetwood, UK; I attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Sha'ban. I was not able to sight the Hilal, the western horizon below 6° was completely covered with very dense clouds and remained the same until moonset".

Mufti Zaheer Aslam commented: "Stood for about 7 mins trying to view the crescent and used GPS Compass to locate the position of the moon. It was raining and there was heavy cloud cover in all directions, the clouds were dark and thick. There was some blue sky visible in patches as seen in the picture. The view in the direction of the moon was better with some sky visible at the horizon above the hills, moon sighting location Falinge Road/B6377 (53.6236125,-2.1672251)".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was cloudy and raining today (14/3/2021) in York, but there was a clear patch near sunset which promised a good chance to see the 32 hrs crescent moon. Unfortunately, it became totally cloudy after sunset and a thick bank of dark cloud moved over to the moon position so it was not seen. I hope we get a positive report from other parts of the UK later, InshaAllah".

Seen after sunset: On 14 Mar 2021, ICOUK member Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel from Abha City in the Asir County (Saudi Arabia) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Binoculars.

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Alhamdulillah, before sunset the sky was clear but as it [was getting] close and past sunset, it got [very] hazy with light patchy clouds. Local sunset was 6:20 pm. I tried with binoculars until 7:05 pm. Right at the last moment as it was disappearing, I managed to see the Shaban crescent for literally a few seconds. No chance to take any pictures. It shows that the age [of the moon] being 30 hours and altitude of 10 deg at sunset is [sometimes] not enough [to easily see it]. There are other parameters too".

Mr Ayhan Tabu commented: "Assalamualeykum. Today i have not seen the Crescent of the month Shaban".


Announcement for start of Shaban 1442 AH

On Saturday 13th March 2021 (29th Rajab 1442 AH) the Hilal of Shaban 1442 was not sighted in the UK to Morocco region. We have also received a negative sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).

Therefore, (as per the agreed criteria) the month of Rajab 1442 AH will complete 30-days and the month of Shaban 1442 AH will start from Monday 15th March 2021, making 15th Shaban to be on Monday 29th March 2021 (i.e. from the night of Sunday 28th March), InShaAllah.

Note that Saudi Arabia do not normally make any official Hilal Sighting announcement from Safar to Shaban (as they usually follow the Ummul Qura Calendar in these months).
