Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was fairly cloudy in York today (15/9/2023) although there was some clear patch near the sunset point, but a dark patch of clouds (up to 7° high) was over the expected position of the moon (at 2° altitude) so the moon was not seen".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was totally cloudy in York today (16/9/2023), so the four of us could not see the moon, unfortunately. However, it was my first opportunity to install a removable telescope pillar in an open field with a clear view of the western horizon. I have been working on this project for the last few weeks and managed to get the control software (SynScan) to drive a computerised telescope (Skywatcher AZ GTI with ST80). I hope to calibrate it on a clear night so it will be easier to find the moon after sunset, InshaAllah".

Mr Mizanul Amin Babar commented: "The horizon was fully covered by clouds".


York (Elvington)

Not seen after sunset: On 17 Sep 2023, ICOUK member Eng Qamar Uddin from York (Elvington) City in the North Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "The direction of the crescent moon today (17/9/2023) was precisely in the direction of Elvington Airfield runway with a clear view of the western horizon, so there was a very good chance to see the moon, as we did last year (1444-03) even though it was cloudy then. Unfortunately, the entire western horizon was cloudy today so there was no chance to see the moon. The weather forecast showed most of the UK's Northern regions were cloudy but some parts of South East and South West regions were clear, but we have not received any positive sighting reports yet".


Announcement for start of Rabi-ul Awwal 1445 AH

On Friday, 15th September 2023 (29th Safar 1445 AH) the Hilal of Rabi-ul Awwal 1445 was not sighted in the UK (Local). Therefore, the month of Safar 1445 AH will complete 30 days and the month of Rabi-ul Awwal 1445 AH will start on Sunday, 17th September 2023, InShaAllah.
