Mr Razmy Nazeer Mohamed commented: "It was thick clouds on the sky we 3 of us have spotted new crescent in between clouds. But very difficult to detect on the pictures ".

Mr Imad Ahmed commented: "Alhamdulillah, we saw the moon at the Royal Observatory Greenwich - which was live streamed to all those who watched (thousands of people). The video can be seen below - scroll to the end to see the moon in the clearest way. In the first instance, I could not see the moon due to a tree, then I climbed the roof and could just about see it as an orange glow when it was pointed out to me. My colleague, Tom Kerrs had seen it earlier and watched it with his eye and tracked it for about 15 minutes saw it far clearer earlier, and took great photos. Mr Abubaker Sayed commented: "We (Hafiz Asad Mulla & Abubaker Sayed) originally sighted the crescent moon just before sunset approx 21:05-21:10 with the use of binoculars. At this point, we could not see the moon without the use of binoculars. We read maghrib salaah and noticed the moon appearing from under the clouds at 21:44. At this point, it was visible without the use of binoculars. The photos of the crescent were taken between 21:44 and 21:53. We were able to sight the moon without binoculars until approx 22:20. Announcement for start of Shawwal 1440 AH

On Tuesday 4th June 2019 (29th Ramadan 1440 AH) the Hilal of Shawwal 1440 was sighted in the UK/Morocco region. We have also received a positive sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).

Therefore, the month of Ramadan 1440 AH will have 29-days and the month of Shawwal 1440 AH will start from Wednesday 5th June 2019, InShaAllah. Eid Mubarak to all Muslims (and don't forget to share your Hilal photo on ICOUK website)!
