The crescent visibility map below for Shawwal 1442 shows that the moon will be born on 11 May 2021 at 19:00 GMT/UT, but it will not be visible by the naked-eye anywhere in the UK to Morocco region (or anywhere in the whole world) on that date. However, on 12 May 2021, the moon may not be seen in the UK (by the naked eye) but it is likely to be seen in the West African countries, including Morocco (Dakhla). Hence, the month of Shawwal is most likely to start from 13 May 2021, InShaAllah. Note that there will be a total lunar eclipse on 26 May 2021 across Australia to the Americas (bypassing the UK).

Maulana Hidayatullah Patel commented: "Clear patches around sunset location. Venus was seen via binoculars first then via naked eye but crescent not seen".
Bolton
Not seen after sunset: On 12 May 2021, ICOUK member Mr Sameer Ali from Bolton City in the Greater Manchester County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.
Mr Sameer Ali commented: "We stayed at the location from 20 minutes before sunset until moonset. The moon was not sighted".

Mr Juned Patel commented: "On Wednesday, 12th of May 2021 (29 Ramadan) between 17:00 to 22:00 (Sunset 20:59 & Moonset 21:54) at Location: Rivington Rd, Bolton, UK; we group of 30 people attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Ramadan. We were not able to sight the Hilal (the crescent moon) through naked eyes, binoculars, and telescope. However, I could manage to confirm the position of the moon using [CCD camera] enhancing technics and managed to image the New Invisible Moon, which is obviously not called the crescent moon [Hilal]".

Mr Muhammad Arshad Dar commented: "We were a group of 25-30 people, the sky was partly cloudy, we could see Venus but the crescent was not sighted".

Mr Tahir Mahmood commented: "We had complete cloud cover and constant rain in Bristol, which made any sighting extremely difficult. Despite the weather conditions attempts were made but we were unable to sight the Cresent".

Ms Rahma Alfarsy commented: "The crescent was not observed by a group of around 20 people [university students] due to cloud coverage".

Mr Riyaz Bhikha commented: "There were four of us who were at Bardon Hill today from 20:30 to 21:40. We did not see the moon. It was partly cloudy on the horizon. However, there were also many parts of the sky clear too at times".

Shaykh Sulayman Gani commented: "Over 30 of us attempted the sighting of the crescent moon. It was educational for the children and we had about 6 brother who joined us for the sighting for the first time. We could not see the Hilal with the naked eye after observing the Maghrib salah".

Mr Hatim El-Harrak commented: "In the name of Allah the Merciful. We tried to observe the crescent of the month of Shawwal 1442 AH in Tangiers on the evening of Wednesday, 29 Ramadan 1442 AH, corresponding to May 12, 2021 AD. Because of the bad weather and the presence of clouds on the horizon, it prevented the sight of the crescent Knowing that the crescent has been clearly observed in other cities. According to the official announcement, Shawwal will start tomorrow, Thursday [13 May 2021], Eid al-Fitr".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was totally cloudy after sunset today so the 49 hrs old moon could not be seen, but it has been sighted in multiple places in the UK, Alhamdulillah".

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Seen today first with binoculars then with the naked eye. Today also there were a lot of clouds but there were brief breaks. At 6.35 pm was the local sunset. the crescent was seen by binoculars after 10min only for a few seconds and after another 5 min it was seen by the naked eye. The problem was the clouds that came over to cover the moon until it set. A friend of mine managed to catch a photo that shows also the planet mercury. see attached.".
Announcement for start of Shawwal 1442 AH
On Wednesday 12th May 2021 (29th Ramadan 1442 AH) the Hilal of Shawwal 1442 was not sighted in the UK but it was sighted in Morocco region. We have also received a positive sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).
Therefore, the month of Ramadan 1442 AH will have 29-days and the month of Shawwal 1442 AH will start from Thursday 13th May 2021, InShaAllah. Eid Mubarak to all Muslims (and don't forget to share your Hilal photo on ICOUK website)!
