Crescent Moon Visibility of Rabi-ul Thani/Akhir 1444 AH

The crescent visibility map below for Rabi-ul Thani 1444 (RHS) shows that the moon will be born on 25 October 2022 at 10:49 GMT/UT, but it will not be visible by the naked-eye anywhere in the UK to Morocco (MA) region. However, on 26 October 2022, the moon will be visible in Morocco but not in the UK until the next day. Hence, the month of Rabi-ul Thani is most likely to start from 27 and 28 October 2022 in Morocco and UK, respectively, InShaAllah. Note that there will be a partial solar eclipse on 25 October 2022 across Europe to North/East Africa and a Total Lunar Eclipse on 7 - 8 November 2022 from Europe to South America.

Not seen after sunset: On 26 Oct 2022, ICOUK member Mr Mohammad Quraishi from Blackburn City in the Lancashire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Mr Mohammad Quraishi commented: "Negative Sighting: No visibility on the horizon after sunset (17:54) and the moonset here was at 18:09 BST".

Not seen after sunset: On 26 Oct 2022, ICOUK member Mr Shakil Qureshi from Cardiff City in the Wales County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Mr Shakil Qureshi commented: "I observed sunset and remained in the same position until approximately half an hour after Maghrib".

Not seen after sunset: On 26 Oct 2022, ICOUK member Mr Juned Patel from Chorley City in the Greate Manchester County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars or Telescope.

Mr Juned Patel commented: "The crescent moon of Rabi at-Thani 1444 was not seen as expected from Bolton (UK) this evening the 26th of October 2022 (29th of Rabi al-Awwal). The area where the moon [was expected] was covered with very dense clouds and I could not even see it through the telescope".

Ms Shemanara Haq commented: "Sunset 5.42pm and moonset 6.06pm. Negative sighting bb myself and my 7 years old son (plus one non-Muslim sister). We observed till moonset. The photo was taken around sunset time".

Not seen after sunset: On 26 Oct 2022, ICOUK member Eng Qamar Uddin from Dhaka City in the Uttara County (Bangladesh) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "I am visiting Bangladesh (from UK) and have tried to look for the Hilal from the capital, Dhaka. The western horizon was cloudy and hazy, so the moon was not seen. The start of Rabi-ul Thani 1444 in Bangladesh will be from Friday 28th October 2022, InshaAllah. Please see the official announcement from the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh on their Facebook page".

Mr Juned Patel commented: "Today I could not defeat the clouds and did not spot the new first visible phase of the crescent moon. The weather forecast was completely cloudy after the sunset but still went out in the hope to get some gaps in the dense clouds and give it a go and decided to climb up to Rivington Pike [hill, 363 m high] with my two daughters".

Announcement for start of Rabi-ul Thani 1444 AH

On Wednesday 26th October 2022 (29th Rabi-ul Awwal 1444 AH) the Hilal of Rabi-ul Thani 1444 was sighted in Morocco, but not in the UK. We have also received a positive sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).

Therefore, the start of the month based on the Regional (UK – MA) and Local (UK-only) Moon Sighting criteria are given below.

Regional (UK - MA): the month of Rabi-ul Awwal 1444 AH will have 29-days and the month of Rabi-ul Thani 1444 AH will start from Thursday 27th October 2022, InShaAllah.

Local (UK-only): the month of Rabi-ul Awwal 1444 AH will complete 30-days and the month of Rabi-ul Thani 1444 AH will start from Friday 28th October 2022, InShaAllah.
