Not seen after sunset: On 13 Aug 2026, ICOUK member Mr Hameed Mamaniat from Blackburn City in the Lancashire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Telescope.
Mr Hameed Mamaniat commented: "I was able to digitally detect the Moon, albeit barely, using the ASI2600MM camera on the GT71 at around 3pm. The crescent was extremely faint. I had expected to image it again later in the evening, but increasing cloud cover made this impossible. Even with a clear horizon, a naked-eye sighting or confirmation using optical aid would have been quite challenging due to the Moon's very low altitude at sunset".

Not seen after sunset: On 13 Aug 2026, ICOUK member Eng Mudasser Iqbal from Huddersfield City in the West Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.
Eng Mudasser Iqbal commented: "Negative sighting, as was expected here in Huddersfield. Band of low horizon cloud which was patchy. However, with only 2 degrees of elongation and the moon setting roughly 21 mins after sunset, there would be a high amount of solar glare anyway to view the waxing crescent. Moon is too low and close to the Sun due to the phenomenon of a Major Lunar Standstill, which we are in the season of".

Mr Juned Patel commented: "On Friday, 14 August 2026, between 20:49 and 20:58, I tried to find the crescent Moon from Bolton, UK. After travelling back from Spain, I arrived late and had very little time to prepare. I went out without my camera or binoculars and searched using only my naked eyes. Unfortunately, I could not see the Moon with the naked eye. However, I pointed my mobile phone camera toward the expected position and, Alhamdulillah, the young Moon appeared on the screen [hence, I would most likely have seen it with a pair of binoculars]. Seen after sunset: On 14 Aug 2026, ICOUK member Mr Atiq Hussain from Stockton-on-Tees City in the Cleveland County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Binoculars.
Mr Atiq Hussain commented: "From our usual location in Stockton on Tees the moon was sighted after sunset time using binoculars. Located roughly 27 degrees left of sunset position (used hand stretched out at arms length to estimate 25 degrees). The moon was first seen at an altitude of 3.0 degrees and followed down to around 2.5 degrees. I was simultaneously trying to take photos and show my friend the location. When I tried to find it again I was unable to locate it as I believe it had disappeared into the lower atmosphere and haze".
York (New Earswick)

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was partly cloudy today in York (14/8/2026), but fortunately the area near the sunset point was clear and the moon was seen low on the horizon, soon after sunset with binoculars. Unfortunately, I was too late to see it with the naked eye after praying maghrib as it had already set".

Hafiz Imraan Moolla commented: "Not seen in Guernsey. Cloudy on the horizon. Since the moon was very low went around the bay to the other side of the tower visible in the picture, but no chance".
Announcement for start of Rabi-ul Awwal 1448 AH
On Thursday, 13th August 2026 (29th Safar 1448 AH), the Hilal of Rabi-ul Awwal 1448 was not sighted in the British Isles (UK), according to the rules of Shariah. Therefore, Safar 1448 AH will complete 30 days, and Rabi-ul Awwal 1448 AH will start on Saturday, 15th August 2026, InShaAllah. Note that Saudi Arabia do not normally make any official Hilal Sighting announcement from Safar to Shaban (as they usually follow the Ummul Qura Calendar in these months).
