Not seen after sunset: On 29 Dec 2016, ICOUK member Eng Qamar Uddin from York City in the North Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was totally cloudy in York and so unable to see the western horizon at all after sunset".

Not seen after sunset: On 29 Dec 2016, ICOUK member Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel from Abha City in the Aseer County (Saudi Arabia) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "On Friday 30th December 2016, the Hilal of Rabi-ul Thani 1438 AH was seen with difficulty (due to heavy clouds) from York Astronomical Society, York (UK) after sunset by myself and Br Aqaele Peeroo. The Hilal was over 33 hours old, but it was not seen yesterday when it was 9 hours old. According to Hadith, this is the first day's Hilal even though it may look big, because it was hidden the day before! Seen after sunset: On 30 Dec 2016, ICOUK member Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel from Darb City in the Jizan Aseer County (Saudi Arabia) mentioned that the sky was Clear, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye.

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Crescent moon was seen at 6pm for about 20min. from AlDarb, a town down the mountain from ABHA KSA. Local sunset and magrib was 5.40pm".


Announcement for start of Rabi-ul Thani 1438 AH

On Thursday 29 December 2016 (29th Rabi-ul Awwal 1438 AH) the Hilal of Rabi-ul Thani 1438 was not sighted in the UK/Morocco region. We have also received a negative report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).

Therefore, the month of Rabi-ul Awwal 1438 AH will complete 30-days and the month of Rabi-ul Thani 1438 AH will start from Saturday 31 December 2016, Insha-Allah.

Note that Saudi Arabia do not normally make any official Hilal Sighting annoucement from Safar to Shaban.
