Not seen after sunset: On 01 Jan 2025, ICOUK member Mr Juned Patel from Anglezarke City in the Lancashire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Mr Juned Patel commented: "Completely cloudy, negative sighting".


Ashton-under-Lyne

Seen after sunset: On 01 Jan 2025, ICOUK member Ms Rahma Alfarsy from Ashton-under-Lyne City in the Greater Manchester County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye.

Ms Rahma Alfarsy commented: "After a completely overcast stormy day, the partly cleared with strong winds moving the clouds across the sky. Alhamdulillah, the breaks in the cloud revealed clear patches of sky in which the bright crescent could be clearly seen with the naked eye. Aneeqa Khan first saw it as it was setting onto rooftops in between the chimneys, followed by Rahma Alfarsy".

Ms Shemanara Haq commented: "Observation just before sunset 3:50 PM til moonset time 5:15 PM. Observed with Sr Julie and Sr Lucy and one non-Muslim sister. Negative sighting from Brotton village. The first photo was taken at sunset time and the second one an hour later".

Ms Maria Elena Rivas commented: "Looked out from the top of 5 story building with my daughter and 3 of her friends. The sky was partly clouded, but a thick cloud was quickly moving toward the moon's location and so we weren't able to spot the moon".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "I could easily see the Rajab 1446 Hilal before sunset today (2/1/2025) with my naked eye in bright sunlit sky conditions (after my recent eye cataract surgery), Alhamdulillah. Those who wear glasses need to use a good pair of astronomy binoculars (at least 10x50 type) to find the moon and then try to see it with the naked eye (weather permitting)".

On Wednesday, 1st January 2025 (29th Jumada-II 1446 AH), the Hilal of Rajab 1446 was sighted in the UK (Local), and we have received partial testimonies (from two sisters), but are awaiting further testimonies from male witnesses.[See bit.ly/TestimonyPolicy ] Therefore, Jumada-II 1446 AH will complete 30 days, and Rajab 1446 will start from Friday, 3rd January 2025, InshaAllah. This declaration may be backdated after receiving further testimonies. Please note that it is a communal obligation (Fardh Al-Kifaya) for UK Muslims to report their monthly sightings, to minimise delays with declarations.
