Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "There were about 10 of us who were trying to look for the Hilal of Ramadan 1440 from York Astronomical Society location in Murton (York), but unfortunately, it was not sighted. There were clear patches between the clouds but the moon was too low on the horizon and too close to the sun to be able to be sighted event if the sky was crystal clear. Ramadan Mubarak to all, whenever you chose to do it (Monday or Tuesday)!".

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Not seen. Although cloudy, but there were clear patches. The moon crescent was only 17 hours old at local sunset time and although remained after sunset for 30 mins. It's altitude was only 5 deg. I have not seen such a young crescent in my 5-year experience".

Dr Mohammad Ramtoola commented: "The 6 of us sighted the crescent today 6/5/2019 at Lytham beach [Blackpool] Lancashire. The sky was partly cloudy but eventually cleared. Moon located soon after sunset with binoculars and a few minutes later with the naked eye".

Mr Juned Patel commented: "On Monday, 6th of May 2019 (30 Shaban 1440 AH) between 20:35 to 21:20 (Sunset 20:48 & Moonset 22:36) at Location: B6226, Chorley Old Road, Bolton, Lancashire, UK +53°35'37"N, -2°29'24"W / Altitude: 220m Height; I attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Ramadan. The Crescent was sighted first with a binocular at 20:57 and then naked eye at 20:58 to the left of Sunset and orientation was from 1 to 7 O’clock, It was visible till 21:14 and then disappeared behind the clouds. [Winner of Photo Competition - Admin]".

Announcement for start of Ramadan 1440 AH
On Sunday 5th May 2019 (29th Shaban 1440 AH) the Hilal of Ramadan 1440 was not sighted in the UK/Morocco region. We have also received a negative sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).
Therefore, the month of Shaban 1440 AH will complete 30-days and the month of Ramadan 1440 AH will start from Tuesday 7th May 2019 (1st Tarawih from the night of Monday 6th May 2019), InShaAllah.
Note that Saudi Arabia normally announce the start of Ramadan on their SPA (www.spa.gov.sa) website.
