Dr Wajida Hannani commented: "I observed the western skyline on 29th Shaban 1442 [12/4/2021] between 20.10 and 21.00 sunset was 20.22 hilal not sighted".

Mr Juned Patel commented: "On Monday, 12th of April (29 Shaban) between 19:30 to 20:45 (Sunset 20:06 & Moonset 20:31) at Location: Rivington Rd, Bolton, UK; we group of around 25 people attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Ramadan. We were not able to sight the Hilal. We knew the moonset was after 24 minutes of sunset and the western horizon was completely clear after the sunset, despite having the ideal conditions no one could see the crescent moon; although we could see the Sirius star".

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Not seen. There were a few patchy clouds near to where the sunset. Also, Abha being 2200m altitude, and having hills and mountains, the sun disappeared behind clouds and mountains 15 min before actual sunset. Even if it was clear astronomical data shows that it was impossible to sight the Ramadan hilal crescent today. However, Saudi officially has announced after maghrib prayers that the month of Ramadan has started as of today, 13th April is the first day".

It was seen by naked eyes on the left of sunset point at 20:23 pm BST. At the time of the observation, the moon orientation was 2 to 8 o'clock. We were a total of 25 people from Bolton Moonsighting Group and everyone witnessed [sighting] the crescent moon, Alhamdulillah".

Maulana Mubassar Ashfaque commented: "We (I and Maulana Waseem) both saw the Ramadan Hilal. It was at least 40 minutes after sunset when it had got a bit dark. It was first in between the cloud then above the clouds. As it got darker it became more clearer".

Mr Syed Rashid Qadri commented: "The crescent was quite high, bright and clear. Though it was slightly cloudy, it was seen quite clearly [from Northala Fields, Hayes] without any difficulty and stayed up for a long time. Also, there were a lot of families present who witnessed the crescent, too".

Mr Zaheer Ahmad commented: "Arrived just before sunset at my location around 19:40 pm. The western horizon had thick clouds. Stayed until 21:39 pm which was just after the moonset. We were not able to see the hilal".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was totally cloudy and raining in York today (13/4/2021) so the Ramadan Hilal was not seen (as there was a dark bank of clouds over the position of the moon). However, other parts of the UK had clear spells and many locations have reported sighting the moon, Alhamdulillah. UPDATE: One of my colleagues from York Astronomical Society had emailed me at 23:54 BST that he had SEEN the crescent moon from Acaster Lane, just outside Bishopthorpe (York) through a gap in between two darks clouds and sent me a few crescent moon photos too (one is attached)".

Seen after sunset: On 13 Apr 2021, ICOUK member Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel from Abha City in the Asir County (Saudi Arabia) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye and Binoculars.

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Alhamdulillah today it was easy to see the crescent moon. The crescent was first seen by binoculars 7 mins after actual sunset for Abha. then 10 mins later I could see the crescent with the naked eye".


Announcement for start of Ramadan 1442 AH

On Monday 12th April 2021 (29th Shaban 1442 AH) the Hilal of Ramadan 1442 was not sighted in the UK to Morocco region. We have also received a negative sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).

Therefore, the month of Shaban 1442 AH will complete 30-days and the month of Ramadan 1442 AH will start from Wednesday 14th April 2021 (1st Tarawih from the night of Tuesday 13th April 2021), InShaAllah.

Note that Saudi Arabia normally announce the start of Ramadan on their SPA (www.spa.gov.sa) website.
