The crescent visibility map below for Safar 1446 (RHS) shows that the moon will be born on 4 August 2024 at 11:13 GMT/UT, but it will not be visible by the naked eye in the UK to Morocco region on that date. However, on 5 August 2024, the moon may be visible in Morocco, but [may] not in the UK. Hence, the month of Safar is likely to start on 6 and 7 August 2024 in Morocco and the UK, respectively, InShaAllah.

Not seen after sunset: On 05 Aug 2024, ICOUK member Mr Mohammad Quraishi from Blackburn (Mellor) City in the Lancashire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Mr Mohammad Quraishi commented: "Moon was NOT seen in Blackburn. There was full cloud cover on the horizon before and after sunset".


Brentwood

Not seen after sunset: On 05 Aug 2024, ICOUK member Mr Hendrik Stahlberg from Brentwood City in the Essex County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Mr Hendrik Stahlberg commented: "The moon was not seen in Brentwood".

Not seen after sunset: On 05 Aug 2024, ICOUK member Mr Motosir Ali from Cardiff City in the Wales County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Mr Motosir Ali commented: "It was not possible to view due to the thick clouds".

Not seen after sunset: On 05 Aug 2024, ICOUK member Shaykh Sulayman Gani from Dundee City in the Scotland County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Shaykh Sulayman Gani commented: "The two of us (Imam Safwan Hussain and I) attempted to sight the crescent moon from the Dundee Law (174m elevation). We arrived there 20 minutes before sunset. The western horizon was totally cloudy".


High Wycombe

Not seen after sunset: On 05 Aug 2024, ICOUK member Maulana Yusuf Mota from Leeds City in the West Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Maulana Yusuf Mota commented: "It was totally cloudy towards the western horizon from Seacroft in Leeds, the Hilal of Safar 1446 was not sighted".

Not seen after sunset: On 05 Aug 2024, ICOUK member Ms Rahma Alfarsy from London (Lewisham) City in the Greater London County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Ms Rahma Alfarsy commented: "Clouds lay on the horizon, preventing a possible sighting".


Margate

Seen after sunset: On 05 Aug 2024, ICOUK member Mr Juned Patel from Margate City in the Kent County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Binoculars.

Mr Juned Patel commented: "We, the three of us Muslim brothers (Juned Patel, Anees Farooq and Mohammed Saleem) saw the crescent moon [32 hrs old, 6° alt] with binoculars only. There was no way we could have seen it with our naked eyes".


Middlesbrough

Not seen after sunset: On 05 Aug 2024, ICOUK member Ms Julie Breen from Middlesbrough City in the Cleveland County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Ms Julie Breen commented: "There was heavy cloud at the horizon preventing any possibility of seeing the crescent".

Not seen after sunset: On 05 Aug 2024, ICOUK member Mr Faruq Bilbe from Reading City in the Berkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Mr Faruq Bilbe commented: "Although the sky looked promising earlier the horizon clouded over just before sunset (20:44) and the remaining breaks in the cloud only moved sideways".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was partly cloudy today (5/8/2024) in York, but the lower horizon where the moon was expected to be seen was totally cloudy (as pointed out by my GPS compass) so the moon was not seen. The bright Venus star (next to the moon) was not seen either! Some parts of the UK had clear skies and we have received three testimonies of sighting by binoculars from Margate (Kent)".

Prof Hassan Talibi commented: "بسبب غيم خفيف لم أره بعيني لكني استعنت بالزهرة التي كانت واضحة فأخذت مجموعة من الصور فوبتكبيرها في الحاسوب ظهر الهلال خافتا. / Translation: Due to light clouds, I could not see it with my eyes, but I used the Venus star, which was clear, so I took a group of pictures. When I enlarged them on the computer, the crescent appeared faint".

Mr Shakil Qureshi commented: "We arrived at the location just as the sun had set. We remained at the location for some time, enjoying the scenery. I wasn't sure if we would see the crescent due to the horizontal clouds, but then we saw it. [Submitted on 15/8/2024 - Admin]".

Mr Anees Farooq commented: "I was able to see the moon by naked eye soon after sunset (from the top of Clifton Road bypass bridge) with my three young children. [Submitted on 7/8/2024 - Admin]".


York

Seen after sunset: On 06 Aug 2024, ICOUK member Eng Qamar Uddin from York City in the North Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye and Binoculars.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "The weather in York before sunset (which was at 20:52 BST) was very clear, so I was able to spot the Venus at 20:45 BST and saw the moon to the left of Venus soon afterwards (using a 20x80 binoculars). Then it went behind a think bank of clouds and did not reappear until half an hour later. I was then able to see it easily by the naked eye, Alhamdulillah".


Announcement for start of Safar 1446 AH

On Monday, 5th August 2024 (29th Muharram 1446 AH) the Hilal of Safar 1446 was sighted in the UK (Local) with binoculars. Therefore, the month of Muharram 1446 AH will have 29 days and the month of Safar 1446 AH will start on Tuesday, 6th August 2024, InShaAllah.
