Crescent Moon Visibility of Jumada Al-Akhira 1446 AH

The crescent visibility map below for Jumada Al-Akhira 1446 (RHS) shows that the moon will be born on 1 December 2024 at 06:21 GMT/UT, but it will not be visible by the naked eye anywhere in the UK to Morocco region on that date. However, on 2 December 2024, the moon may be visible in Morocco but not in the UK (due to the low altitude during the Major Lunar Standstills). Hence, the month of Jumada Al-Akhira is likely to start on 3 and 4 December 2024 in Morocco and the UK, respectively, InShaAllah. [UK Major Lunar Standstills Q&A]

The moon was obviously going to be difficult to spot given the clouds, its low altitude and the trees and bushes on the skyline, but a break in the clouds might have allowed it to be visible through the bare branches. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any appropriate break in the cloud cover before the moonset (16:11)".

It was over 59 hours old, but only 4° altitude at sunset and it was seen just after 4 pm GMT when it was about 2° altitude. It was not seen yesterday (2/12/2024) due to the very low altitude of the moon during the Major Lunar Standstills, even though it was seen in other equatorial countries like Morocco. We hope to see the next few Hilals at a very high altitude (as a payback for the low altitude) in the next few months and possibly before other equatorial countries (e.g., on 27/5/2025), InshaAllah. It was a binocular-only sighting as the moon went into a dark bank of clouds before it could be seen by the naked eye (as seen in other places). See the YouTube Video".
